Aboriginal 101 & Aboriginality

France first discovered the St. Lawrence river and named the land that which they were standing upon "Canada." Before the Europeans came, the native aboriginals lived there for a long time and they still do now. Majority of Canadians don't even know that the aboriginals still live in Canada today. For a long time, I used to forget that aboriginals still live in Canada.

We never really learned that much about aboriginals, only during history class but we should learn about the injustice that is happening right in our very own country. My grade 8 teacher was a very inspirational man, he always cared about the justice of other and he would even go out of his own way of teaching us about today's injustice instead of the text curriculum. For instance he would teach us about how the government put the aboriginals aside into reserves and force them to follow all these rules. They treat them in very bad condition and I believe that no one should be treated like that.

In this video about Aboriginal 101, a news reporter went on the streets and asked them questions about the aboriginals in Canada. I was shocked how these people barely know anything about them; business men, the elderly and even young students barely know anything. This shows how no one knows about anything about the aboriginals and they should know about them.

The video Aboriginality, explains that aboriginals can mix their own culture with the modern day culture. The boy in the video was watching a tv of this guy dancing a native dance but there was a twist. Instead of using native music, it was hip hop music and dancing with a hop. It was very interesting that the boy was interested in it also. Later on, he goes to some forest that he watches a guy actually preforming the native dance with multiple hops. I think from this video we learn that aboriginals just don't stick to their native cultures but they can actually change parts of it into our modern day culture. It's still native but with a twist of modern; Aboriginality.
