Stereotypes or Stereo-Gripes...

Growing up, my parents always taught me not to listen to anything on the tv for everything is made up and the people who just created those things were just made for people's enjoyment. Also they also said not to listen to other's opinions but your own. Finally to remember the feelings of others; if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all.

The advertisement that was shown is very stereotypical. It portrayed think that all truck drivers are aggressive, real men. The reason why the people used this way of advertisement to persuade buyers to make them feel as if they are aggressive and real men. It comes out very offensive to those some on those who are watching this advertisement. In my opinion, this is just an other way people can get viewer to by their products.

I was at Boston Pizza the other day and I went for a quick washroom break. Inside the stall there was this poster that said "Dressing up doesn't make it true." This quickly reminded me about how this commercial is. All the comments that were the people saying in the commercial was really stereotypical. However, not all of it is true. The reason why they do this to persuade to think if you buy this product you will become something you are.

  1. True! I feel the same way. This stereotypical thing is just a method of convincing people to buy their product. However, stereotypes sometimes do speak the voice inside many people's head. Like, come on. You can't tell me that when I tell you to think of a truck driver, you think of a balding middle aged man, that works in an office for a living. No, i know youre thinking of some man with some gnarly beard. I feel that the whole commercial is done out of humor and is supposed to just get a laugh. I feel that those who actually get offended when watching these kind of things are just people finding ways to trash little things. So yeah! Things arent offensive unless you make it so.

  2. You hav a great point! I have been on the receiving end of some very offensive stereotypes and it doesn't give off the best vibes. The commercial has shown that not all men are strong or attractive but, only the ones who drive muscle cars. Even though this commercial may have been made to make people laugh, it also sent out the wrong message that "if you look like this, then you gotta act like this" which comes off as a very negative message to send out to people.

  3. I definitely agree! Stereotypes are very offensive, and advertisements shouldn't use them to get viewers to buy their products. At first we laugh, but we don't think about how hurtful it is to some people. This commercial is saying that all men should be tough in order to find a woman. I don't like this message.
